Reformation of Santa Ynez High (RoSY)
reformsy
We are a group of parents and community members committed to the improvement of the governance of Santa Ynez Valley Union High School and the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District.
RoSY Reorganizes
With the suspension of efforts to recall sitting members of the 2007-2008 school board and the election of two new board members in November 2008, the steering committee of RoSY met to reorganize our leadership and update our objectives. Just as RoSY has never allowed High School teachers or staff to be members, it was decided to also not allow school board members to be RoSY members; this caused one of our founding members to depart. For our revised objectives, see the notes to the right on this page.
Note:
The steering committee of RoSY consists solely of parents and community members. We have specifically excluded high school teachers and staff from our leadership, so that they can continue to focus on teaching our kids and not be accused of being self-serving. Likewise, we do not allow sitting School Board members to be a part of RoSY.
While many things we do are for his benefit, Norm Clevenger is not a part of RoSY in any way. He has different avenues he must pursue to address his own grievances.
We at RoSY acknowledge the many accomplishments of our high school over the past years. We thank the current School Board for their service and vast amounts of volunteer time they have devoted to our community. We expect everyone will treat one another with dignity and respect. We expect discussions will be factual as best as we can determine. We will operate in the open and with transparency. Disagreement need not lead to disrespect--that's what got us into this quagmire to begin with. We will not "use" the kids in our debates. We will not engage in personal attacks. We will not boycott the businesses of those with whom we disagree. Remember, when this is all over, we will still all be neighbors....
Congratulations New Board Members
The voters of the Santa Ynez Valley have selected Christine Burtness and Bruce Porter as new board members. We congratulate them and wish them the best of luck.
RoSY
In a meeting on Sunday, March 16th, 2008, a group of community members met to cement the formation of the Committee for the Reformation of Santa Ynez High (RoSY).
The committee formalized RoSY's goals and objectives and laid out an organizational structure to accomplish those objectives.
With the reorganization of RoSY after the November 2008 elections, we confirmed our basic goal and updated our objectives.
Our Goal:
Promote the community's confidence in the governance of the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District and Santa Ynez Valley Union High School.
Our Objectives:
• Bring the "Clevenger affair" to an honorable and fair conclusion
• Encourage community-minded citizens to consider becoming members of the High School District's Governing Body
• Transform the culture of the leadership of the District and High School
